Commissions Chilanga Cement’s $30 Million Industrial Expansion in Ndola
Ndola, Zambia – 25th June 2025; Chilanga Cement Plc, a member of the Huaxin Group, today officially commissioned the upgraded Kiln 1 and a new Lime Production Line at its Ndola Plant, marking a major milestone in Zambia’s industrial recovery and cement sector transformation.
The commissioning ceremony was graced by the minister of Mines and Mineral
Development, Hon Paul Kabuswe, on behalf of His Excellency Mr. Hakainde Hichilema, President of the Republic of Zambia, and attended by several dignitaries, including The copperbelt Province Minister Hon, Elisha Matambo, Mr. Muna Hantuba, Chilanga Cement Plc Board Chairman, Mr. Li Yeqingand , Huaxin Group President and Mr. Wu Zhiling, Mayor of Huangshi City in China, the birthplace of the Huaxin Group.
In his keynote address, President Hichilema commended the investment, stating: “What we are witnessing today is the fruit of a bold vision, backed by action, belief, and investment in Zambia’s future. The revival of the Ndola Plant, which was once on the brink of closure, demonstrates what sound policy, private sector commitment, and forwardlooking partnerships can achieve.”
The revamped Kiln 1 has tripled clinker production capacity from 500 to 1,500 tons per day, while the new Lime Production Line adds 100,000 tons of annual capacity. This expansion not only broadens the company’s product portfolio but also strengthens Zambia’s competitiveness in cement and related materials across the region.
The Huaxin Group President Mr. Li Yeqing, reaffirmed the Group’s commitment and averred that: “Chilanga Cement is not just a company in Zambia, it is a Zambian company, aligned with the country’s development goals and rooted in its communities.”
Mr. Wu Zhiling, Mayor of Huangshi City, expressed his satisfaction with the project, describing it as a much-needed modernization effort that combines Huaxin’s advanced technology with Chilanga Cement’s local expertise, creating meaningful contributions to Zambia’s industrial growth and transformation.
Meanwhile, Mr. Muna Hantuba, Chairman of Chilanga Cement Plc, hailed the occasion as a defining moment: “When faced with losses and uncertainty, we chose reinvestment over retreat. Today, we celebrate progress, innovation, and resilience.”
This project brings Chilanga Cement’s total investment since 2021 to over USD 30 million, reaffirming its commitment to local industrial development, environmental sustainability, and job preservation. The investment also includes a dry mortar production line for tile adhesive and wall putty, expected to enter the market soon, and a plastic waste shredder under the company’s ECO Unit.
Hon. Elisha Matambo, Copperbelt Provincial Minister, welcomed the investment, stating that: “This plant is more than concrete and machinery, it is an engine for opportunity, employment, and local pride.”
As the Ndola Plant enters a new era, Chilanga Cement Plc remains focused on contributing meaningfully to Zambia’s national goals of industrialisation, job creation, and sustainable development.
